Position Summary:

Performs a variety of functions within the materials department including, but not limited to shipping/receiving, distribution and storage of raw materials, as well as packaging. This position follows standard practices with moderate supervision provided by the Materials Supervisor. Interacts with all departments.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive incoming materials into stockroom.
  • Receive, verify and distribute all incoming materials.
  • Check and report visual damage upon receipt.
  • Count and verify incoming materials to purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Package and label all products in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure that designated items are packaged and labeled according to contract requirements.
  • Verify item quantities for each order.
  • Maintain a neat and controlled stockroom.
  • Stock and distribute raw materials and finished goods according to established procedures.
  • Visually review stock levels and physically count designated items at set periodic intervals.
  • Issue materials to the production floor promptly and courteously.
  • Maintain batch/lot integrity.
  • Pull stock by FIFO (first in first out) method when possible.
  • Follow established materials control procedures.
  • Maintain accuracy of counts.
  • Stores articles in bins, floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of items.
  • Fills orders or issues supplies from stock.
  • Administration of materials and commodities from receipt of goods to issuing to the end user, including inventory control, kitting and shipping when required.
  • Pack and mark shipments to ensure safe transport, and in accordance with the requirements of the contract or order.
  • Verify that all materials comply with the order to be shipped prior to packing.
  • Ensure that shipments comply with applicable safety regulations for hazardous cargo.
  • Ensure that items are shipped via the appropriate mode of transportation, and that all documentation required for shipping via that mode is complete and in order.
  • Construct special shipping containers if required, using hand and power tools.
  • Prepare required reports (e.g. shipping, transfer, receiving) by the prescribed time.
  • Perform light maintenance duties as required, including the cleaning of areas of operation.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

 Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of shipping, receiving, packing and stockroom processes and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and expedite materials.
  • Ability to operate material handling motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to operate a computer with knowledge of Excel and Office.
  • Prior experience working with ERP systems is desirable.
  • Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while working in a high paced, challenging work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate in English and read and write in English
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and good with numbers.
  • Valid driver’s license. Driving record must meet and maintain applicable company standards for initial and continued employment.
  • Mandatory overtime when required.

Training Requirements:

On-the-job training:  Three to six months

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Physical Demands: (*)

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel.  The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)

This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.
