Position Summary:

Technical Production Supervisor will support daily production and implement industrial engineering projects that will result in cost-effective methods of manufacturing superior quality products and fair and equitable manufacturing operating standards.

 

This position is also responsible for the general supervision of a department engaged in the production of parachute systems and related parts, which includes both manufacturing and personnel issues. Plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and drives improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions through project work.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, and related specifications.
  • Work with Procurement and Quality Teams as needed to develop and meet all safety and quality requirements.
  • Independently evaluate and authorize process design changes, specification, and drawing releases, and coordinate such activities with customer technical teams.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production Supervisors, and Suppliers, etc. to drive continuous improvements to existing product lines in a manufacturing environment. This will include:
  • Promote Lean philosophy and techniques to all levels of plant personnel.
  • Work with teams to provide lean tools to meet manufacturing objectives.
  • Aid in the work cell layout, design, development, and implementation of cell-based manufacturing.
  • Lead process mapping and Kaizen events for product lines.
  • Create and maintain standard work process documentation and visual work instructions.
  • Track and publish savings and progress of Lean Initiatives.
  • Independently design tool/fixture equipment requirements, specifications, and budgets.
  • Independently establish equipment requirements, specifications, and budgets.
  • Support day-to-day operations with all teams and departments in a manner that supports the production plan and the Customer’s delivery requirements. Identify barriers to successful production and help drive the push toward resolution and elimination of those barriers.
  • Maintains and achieves daily/monthly production plans and builds product schedules.
  • Manages, organizes, and assigns work to ensure effective use of manpower and facilities.
  • Interprets specifications, blueprints, patterns, and job orders to process employees and makes assignments while optimizing processes and equipment.
  • Ensures effective employee relations. Make employment decisions. Interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates manufacturing employees; disciplines; ensures adherence to company policies and regulations. Coach and grow employees to achieve maximum effectiveness of all efforts.  Resolves employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Implements, enforces, and documents training for all process employees in quality assurance, safety, and machine and department operations. Maintains a training program to ensure all employees comply with the required training activities.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with current ISO quality system requirements and Berry amendment, as well as any other contractual requirements for manufactured goods.
  • Ensures operations comply with Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 3 to 5 years experience working in manufacturing.
  • Prior experience working with MRP systems is desirable.

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
  • Must be able to read drawings/blueprints.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proven experience in the successful application of lean techniques.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram formats.
  • Working knowledge of database, MS Project, AutoCAD, Excel, Syspro, solid modeling and design tools, and word processing software.
  • Project management and planning skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proven experience in the successful application of lean techniques
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to multi-task.
  • Well organized and able to adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to communicate with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
  • Strong leadership and self-motivational skills. Ability to work with a diverse workforce.
  • Good verbal communication skills are required to accurately convey manufacturing and quality standards to subordinates and interact with peers and management.

 

Training Requirements:

Extensive on the job training in company standards and procedures.

 

Travel Requirements:

Periodic travel may be required to support project functions such as supplier visits, product testing, and technical customer meetings.

 

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

 

Physical Demands: (*)

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel.  The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment: (*)

This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office; static electricity and explosives (in test conditions). The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.

Pay Rate: $37-$45 per hour
