Position Summary:
Maintains, services, and conducts minor repairs on buildings and equipment. Performs a variety of semiskilled duties in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, or plastering. Assists in the upkeep and improvement of all facilities, including the main plant, warehouse, and administration building. Complies with established safety guidelines and procedures. Performs general cleaning.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs, making notes and recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical systems (sewing machines, cutting equipment, conveyance systems, etc.)
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance, including, but not limited to, replacing or repairing fixtures (e.g., wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g., replacing or repairing leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work (e.g., preparing surfaces and using a brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).
  • Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g., furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand, power, and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.
  • Prepares and paints walls and woodwork or performs other types of refinishing; installs or repairs carpet; performs custodial duties as required. Maintains a safe, comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g., sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.).
  • Build tables, workstations, and other structures that are used in the manufacture of parachutes and maintenance of the facility.
  • Tasks may involve but are not limited to repairing, replacing, and moving items, changing filters, carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
  • Assist in moving equipment, sewing machines, and “setup” work areas.
  • Help other departments when assistance is needed.
  • Perform janitorial duties when janitors are absent or require special assistance.
  • Assures doors are locked and utilities are turned off in the daily closing of the main plant.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have at least 3+ years of related experience in facility maintenance or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electromechanical systems with little to no supervision
  • Ability to use CNC machining (preferred)
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, communicate verbally and in writing, and work with co-workers and the public.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Ability to handle and operate various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use a ruler and perform basic calculations.
  • Ability to change air conditioner filters and verify proper unit operation.
  • Ability to cut steel without supervision.
  • Ability to self-manage a short list of tasks.
  • Ability to operate an air compressor, work with airlines without supervision and recognize when they are not functioning correctly.
  • Self-starter and team player.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multi-functional tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and against strict time constraints.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Travel Requirements:
Periodic travel may be required to support project functions such as supplier visits, product testing, and technical customer meetings.

ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)
This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.

Wages/Salary: $22 – $35/hr
