Position Summary:
This position plans, measures, and monitors operating limits and capacities of the organization. Reviews sales forecasts, product specifications, and production schedules to determine raw material requirements for an organization accurately. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Utilizes MRP system to coordinate materials from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Forecasts and plans capacity requirements to ensure alignment with department or unit and determine variance from production schedules, resource levels, and inventory demand. Reviews and releases items to be manufactured and their quantities based on sales order demand and internal work order demands. Analyze material requirements planning, capacity planning, and production activity control in the manufacturing process and find solutions for internal material concerns like quality checking and transfer issues. Updates orders to account for remaining inventory or changes in production schedules. In addition, makes sure that the products at the end of the manufacturing phase pass their quality standards. Work is generally independent. A specialist on complex technical and business matters.
Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Oversees a team of planners to ensure raw material requirements are accurately and timely determined so an organization can run efficiently. Has some authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.
The Senior Planner will drive continuous improvement, year over year, to exceed the company’s business objectives while ensuring compliance with all contractual, legal, and regulatory requirements.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and release of items to be manufactured and their quantities based on sales order demand and internal work order demands.
  • Analyze material requirements planning, capacity planning, and production activity control in the manufacturing process, as well as find solutions for internal material concerns like quality checking and transfer issues.
  • Use planning expertise in handling rush orders, new priorities, schedules, quantity changes, cancellations, and other determining factors affecting Company products’ production and shipping schedule.
  • Review reports daily using the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) systems.
  • Make sure that the products at the end of the manufacturing phase pass their quality standards.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote productivity and processes.
  • Work with Project Engineering, Manufacturing Management, and Inventory Control to support development activities, new product launches, and manufacturing and monitor complex programs.
  • Execute tasks related to paperwork and quality requirements to align with purchase order quality clauses.
  • Assure accuracy of bill of material structure, routings, and other required master data.
  • Work with Manufacturing and Inventory Control to set up manufacturing lines, replenishment strategies, and planning factors to optimize product flow.
  • Perform and coordinate through other production planning activities to ensure manufacturing orders start on time, monitor progress, and support where needed.
  • Communicate all component shortages and coordinate with Purchasing, Incoming Inspection, and Manufacturing as necessary.
  • Perform and coordinate review of bill of materials within the ERP system, allocate materials appropriately, and once material shortages are identified, work with procurement to order materials to support demand.
  • Responsible for reporting on the production status and any production issues to upper management.
  • Release manufacturing orders, release job travelers, and pick lists to appropriate departments.
  • Support continuous process improvement activities in support of department goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that schedule, cost, and technical requirements are met.
  • Make day-to-day decisions with or for a group/small department.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or acceptable industry experience.
  • Previous managerial experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent professional knowledge. Aerospace and/or Defense experience is preferred.
  • 4-7 years experience with Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) or master scheduling in a manufacturing environment and shop floor control.
  • APICS certification is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • Good team leadership and interpersonal skills to promote enthusiasm and ensure team success.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic.
  • Thorough understanding of Supply Chain Management operational concepts surrounding production planning, inventory control, purchasing, stockroom operations, and shipping/receiving.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO9001:2008.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and take initiative.
  • Ability to direct and lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • General knowledge of aeronautical and mechanical engineering design principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interface effectively at all levels between various functional departments.
  • Well organized and able to adapt to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Work effectively in a high-pressure environment.

Training Requirements:
On the job training: six to nine months.

Travel Requirements:
Periodic travel may be required to support project functions such as supplier visits, product testing, and technical customer meetings.

ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)
This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.

Salary:
$90,000 – $120,000 annually
