Airborne Systems’ Parachute is Now on Mars | How we got there and what’s next?

Hello Earthlings and Martian friends!
Our webinar last week was so popular, we are coming at you with a repeat! Please join us for the recorded webinar on the Mars parachute.
As you are aware, NASA has just landed the heaviest and most sophisticated rover, Perseverance, on the Red planet. Airborne Systems provided the parachute that went on an 8 month space excursion, before deploying and gently delivering Percy to the Mars surface safely.
There are many firsts in this mission, including the first powered flight vehicle to fly on Mars (Mars Helicopter Ingenuity), the first time Mars rocks and dirt will be stowed to return to Earth, and the first ever video footage of a landing on another planet. In this webinar, we will give you the details on the parachute for such a momentous moment in history.
This webinar will be hosted by Charles Lowry. Charles is the Mars 2020 Project Engineer who led all technical aspects of the Mars 2020 program at Airborne Systems, including design, test, and qualification of all hardware components. He has been with us for 8 years, and started on the Mars 2020 program in 2016.
Charles will:
  • Talk about the path and preparation leading up to this mission
  • Give a play by play of the mission up to this point
  • Discuss the future of Martian exploration and the role of aerodynamic decelerators
This is a recorded webinar. For any questions you have during the presentation, you can ask them via the Questions pane or the post-webinar survey, and we’ll get back to you as soon as ‘martian-ly’ possible! 😉
