Shipping/Materials Team Member

Position Summary:

The Shipping/Materials Team Member supports the efficient preparation and execution of shipments from Airborne Systems facilities and assists in coordinating logistics to and from partner sites. This role also contributes to warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping of goods. The position ensures compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements, particularly for hazardous materials (DOT/HAZMAT) and special handling protocols.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with receiving, verification, and distribution of incoming materials and finished goods in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support preparation and coordination of outbound shipments to their final destination.
  • Conduct visual stock levels reviews and perform periodic physical inventory counts.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of materials in the warehouse or storage facility, including handling, storage, and shipment of HAZMAT equipment.
  • Collaborate with requestors, logistics personnel, materials teams, facilities staff, and couriers to ensure safe and timely shipment execution.
  • Serve as an expeditor when needed to support urgent or challenging shipment schedules.
  • Operate hand trucks, forklifts, or other handling equipment to move goods within the warehouse or storage facility.
  • Ensure items are shipped using the correct mode of transportation, and that all required documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Construct special shipping containers as needed, utilizing both hand and power tools.
  • Prepare and submit required reports (e.g., shipping, transfer, receiving) within designated timeframes.
  • Perform light maintenance and maintain cleanliness of operational areas.
  • Fills requisitions as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

 

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or logistics environment.

 

Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of shipping, packing, and warehouse processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record meeting company standards for initial and continued employment.
  • Ability to safely operate a company box truck for transportation tasks.
  • Availability to work overtime when required.
  • Certified forklift operator.
  • Experience with motorized material handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with DOT, IATA, and HAZMAT regulations for shipment compliance.

 

Training Requirements:

On-the-job training:  Six months to one year.

 

Travel Requirements:

Periodic travel between sites may be required to support project functions and meetings.

 

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

 

Physical Demands: (*)

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel.  The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)

This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.
