In an article released yesterday, January 17th 2017, the U.S. Air Force is using guided precision aerial delivery systems (GPADS) to deliver goods from ammunition to vehicles into unsafe warzones, in this case, Syria. “Today, the bundles are guided onto landing zones using GPS technology and steerable parachutes. ” We’ll get it within 10 or 15 meters of the mark,” Everhart said. The supplies range from small arms ammunition to vehicles.” Click here to read the full article at MilitaryTimes.

On October 5th, 2016, Blue Origin successfully tested the in-flight escape system of the New Shepard Crew Capsule. At 16,053 ft, the crew capsule separated from the launch booster and fired its escape motor. The crew capsule then deployed the Airborne Systems parachute landing system and descended to a gentle landing on the desert landing site.

The Airborne Systems parachute system, the same used for the normal flight, was designed to withstand the added loads on the parachute and to deploy at lower altitudes than that of a typical nominal flight.  The parachute system, consisting of three drogues and three main parachutes, worked perfectly and the crew module returned safely to earth after separation from the launch vehicle.

This test is an important milestone for Blue Origin and Airborne Systems as we progress towards the flight certification of an operational system that can safely fly crewed missions. Airborne Systems congratulates Blue Origin on a remarkable accomplishment and is proud to support this amazing step into the future.

PRODUCT LAUNCH: Airborne Systems’ Releases the Hi-5®

PENNSAUKEN, NJ October 3rd, 2016: Airborne Systems North America proudly presents the Hi-5® as the latest addition to our line of High Performance Ram Air Parachutes. The Hi-5® is truly unique among military parachutes, demonstrating exceptional ram air glide performance while allowing glide modulation to descend quickly and land accurately. The Hi-5® has a remarkable 5.5:1 glide ratio and can transition to a 1:1 glide ratio with a simple control input using the Glide Modulation System. Unlike other methods of angle control, such as front riser trim tabs, Airborne Systems Glide Modulation System does not increase the total speed of the canopy, providing a safe transition at any altitude. This eliminates the need for multiple spirals or S-turns at low altitude, and allows for extremely accurate landings using safe straight-in approaches. The jumper is in total control of where they are and when they arrive on target. This groundbreaking technology is exclusive to Airborne Systems Hi-5®.

In addition to the leap forward in glide ratio technology, the Hi-5® is also easy to maintain and handle for a jumper, and very intuitive to pack for a rigger. The Hi-5® bridges the gap between the Intruder®/RA-1 and our Hi-Glide parachutes, providing a wing with a high glide, accurate landings, and the ability to descend into tight areas safely.

Airborne Systems North America proudly presents Microfly II® as the latest edition to their inventory of Guided Precision Aerial Delivery Systems, also known as GPADS. Airborne Systems North America, with locations in New Jersey, California, and a training facility in Arizona, are the brains behind the most accurate guided precision aerial delivery systems. GPADS are capable of delivering food, equipment, survival kits, troop resupply equipment, and much more to a warzone to support troops or for humanitarian relief. They can deliver loads ranging from 100 to 42,000lbs (45 to 19,051kg) and have glide ratios of up to 4:1, providing unmatched standoff capabilities.

The MicroFly II® is a Guided Precision Aerial Delivery System (GPADS) that emphasizes ease of use, flexibility, and low cost. By incorporating proven technology with innovative design, Airborne Systems has created a safe and reliable cargo delivery system that meets the needs of the modern war-fighter. Once released from an aircraft, it has the ability to fly itself using a Ram Air parachute to a designated point on the ground after being dropped from altitudes up to 24,500 feet (7467m) Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL). The MicroFly II® is designed to fly autonomously to its pre-programmed target area without external guidance. It can also be used to accompany HALO / HAHO teams during operational parachute insertions as well as being used in a more conventional role; resupplying troops on the ground. This ability to autonomously and accurately deliver supplies from high altitudes also reduces the need for vehicular traffic, reducing the logistical footprint and the number of convoys required to sustain a deployed military force.

The MicroFly II® features a light system, simplified drogue falling, and a removable lithium battery with a 6 month maintenance schedule. One of the most exciting and impressive new features on the MicroFly II® is the silent slider. This is available on the Intruder®360 canopy, and reduces the noise of the system in flight, which is a plus for covert missions.
