Assistant Controller

Position Summary:

Assists the ASNA Vice President of Finance in directing the organization’s accounting functions, including cost, payables, and reporting. Contributes to developing and maintaining financial reporting, planning, and budgeting systems. Oversees the preparation of periodic reporting and required legal filings. Ensures that all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the organization. Supervises accounting team members and leads training and development activities.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in developing and implementing goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and payroll and ensures compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and participates in preparing financial statements, including approving journal entries and managing month-end closes.
  • Manages ERP accounting and inventory control computer system.
  • Directs the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers. Maintains accurate cost, tax, property, operating expense, and insurance records.
  • Supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and accounting personnel. Leads team members in training and development initiatives.
  • Reviews monthly account analyses prepared by staff.
  • Reviews financial statements with senior management.
  • Assists in preparing budgets and budget presentations and preparing necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Prepares statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues.
  • Primary contact for internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.
  • Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and corporate reporting.
  • Researches system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
  • Reviews sales bids and proposals to ensure compliance with financial accounting standards.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • Follows company rules and procedures.

 Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. An MBA is desirable.
  • Five to seven years of experience ideally gained through increasingly responsible management positions in the accounting field in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of corporate income sales and use and property tax.
  • General knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, especially Syspro.
  • Knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and word processing software.
  • Knowledge of DAR/FAR.
  • Sound administrative skills and well-developed management skills – principles and people.
  • Proven ability to motivate personnel to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
  • Strong analytic and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple departments.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.

Travel Requirements:

Periodic travel may be required to support project functions such as supplier visits, product testing, and technical customer meetings.

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel.  The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)

This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.
