Manufacturing Engineer I

Position Summary:

Utilizes engineering knowledge to increase safety, quality, and productivity within the Oxygen Department. Creates and maintains engineering drawings and other manufacturing documents. Ensures compliance with approved production methods and quality standards.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  1. Analyze department processes and engineer improvements. Process changes, fixture designs, drawing changes, etc.
  2. Initiate and evaluate process improvements for time/cost savings, as well as quality improvements.
  3. Develop and evaluate new drawing releases and revisions.
  4. Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements and related specifications.
  5. Participate in qualification and testing of new products/new components
  6. Evaluate and write Corrective Action Reports, and follow through on implementation of rework and process changes.
  7. Assist with technical writing/review of our product manuals
  8. Work closely with Oxygen Department and Suppliers, etc. to drive continuous improvements to existing product lines in a manufacturing environment. This will include:
    • Work with teams to provide tools to meet manufacturing objectives.
    • Implement systems for efficiency and quality improvement.
    • Aid in the layout, design, development and implementation of machines and workflow of the manufacturing floor.
    • Analyze product lines to identify areas of potential process improvements.
    • Create and maintain standard work process documentation, and visual work instructions.
  1. Support day-to-day operations, when needed
  2. Grow to become technically sound in all of our products
  3. Help develop and maintain applicable product measures such as on time delivery, inventory, lead times, etc.
  4. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  5. Follows company rules and procedures.

Performance Objectives:

To achieve the mission for this position, the Manufacturing Engineer must produce the following critical actions and results:

  1. Production Operations: Implement processes and controls to ensure all products are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the quality requirements of the customer.
  2. Continuous Improvement: Participate and help drive actions towards reducing manufacturing costs of our key products, increasing key quality metrics, and maintaining/increasing safety in the department.
  3. Technical Competancy: Be able to reliably troubleshoot equipment issues using full knowledge of internal manufacturing processes and knowledge of equipment itself.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 0 to 4 years’ experience in manufacturing.

 Qualifications:

  • Work experience as a manufacturing engineer, process engineer, or production engineer
  • Familiarity with ERP systems a plus
  • Skilled at SOLIDWORKS and design
  • Experience designing/creating fixtures used in a production environment
  • Aerospace experience a plus
  • Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques for designing, building and managing the manufacture of new products.
  • Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for manufacturing new or enhancing existing products.
  • Knowledge of pressurized systems a plus

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate with people at all levels of the organization.

Travel Requirements:

Periodic travel may be required to support project functions such as supplier visits, product testing, and technical customer meetings.

The position requires that the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel.  The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, and kneel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: (*)

This position will require a working environment mix comprised of office, shop floor, field and customer locations (both domestic and international). While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to static electricity; explosives in test conditions; fumes; airborne particles; outside weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is normally moderate may be occasionally high.
